Sculpture.

In his later years Richard returned most fully to visual art, expanding into sculpture with the same sense of exploration that had defined his earlier work. He built with what he found — salvaged objects, mannequins, dolls, and hardware — assembling and reassembling until a piece held together.

He worked the way some people breathe: constantly, instinctively, with no separation between life and creation. Guided, as ever, by curiosity and an unrelenting need to make, he let the materials lead and followed where they went.

Each piece carries a sense of narrative — a layering of memory, image, and imagination. Taken together they read as one long search for meaningful representation, the phrase that became the estate's guiding image.
